out going e-mail

Hi

I am using my laptop, I can access the internet and receive my email but cannot send e-mails. The owner of the wireless connection say's all other users can send and receive mail and it is my settings.
What do I need to alter to enable send messages.This is a personel laptop so there is no administrator.

what is the error message you get? what mail client are you using?

hi here is the error message

"An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'smpt.ntlworld.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421 aamtaout01-winn.ispmail.ntl.com connection refused from [92.1.37.4]', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67

I am on Outlook. Express. does this help?

Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack you using?

What Firewall have you installed and disable it to test your email outgoing connection as it maybe blocking you.

But check your email POP settings

In

Account: "your account name"
Server: pop.ntlworld.com or pop3.ntlworld.com
Protocol: POP

Out

Account: "your account name"
Server: smtp.ntlworld.com or try smtp.virgin.net
Protocol: SMTP

Hi
using microsoft win xp version 2002 service pack 3 I have windows firewall which i dissabled without effect I am usingAvira anti virus.
I have checked the pop settings they are correct
As I say I can send messages and connect to inernet, I am sure its a setting I need to adjust as I am using a wi fi connection, once I return home I can send mail

that is a server busy error you have a crappy mail provider keep trying and you should connect

Hi,

I dont think it is a busy server, I am at a camp site and they have just set up this system the internet is immediate and the receiving of e-mail no problem I have spoken to the site mnager and no one else is having this problem

Any ideas would be welcome:cry:

Hi

Are any of the other users on camp using Virgin or NTL email? what I can remember is that an ISPs email is tied into your internet connection so while it will work at home, if you use someone elses ISP then the outgoing server needs to be the SMTP of their ISP, reason for the port 25 block is that some ISPs are out to stop spam and if trying to send email and its not on their network the port is blocked.

So as a eg. if the camps ISP is O2 then you would need O2s SMTP setting in your OE account settings to send, recieve is fine, its just authentication for outgoing thats the problem.

Worth finding out what the Camps ISP is and then setting the SMTP of your email account to that ISPs, then when home reset back to Virgins settings.

Would hazard a guess many others at that camp are using web based email, like Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo over their ISPs.

I would be tempted to use webmail to get around the issue of your ISPs mail, Gmail or Hotmail.

Thanks for that I can understand what your saying and yes they do have a differant ISP, so I will take your advice and get a hotmail or similar web based address.
It was just not understanding the problem that messed with my head, so thanks for that I will get myself sorted out now.
What would I do without ths site !
