Sounds like the monitor or the graphics card can't handle the screen resolution that the game is wanting. Jewel Quest isn't exactly a demanding game, graphics wise, so I'll assume your graphics card or on-board video is good enough. But as you don't give any info on your system, you could be running a Pentium II, with 4 MB graphics on and old 14" CRT for all I know - and even a simple game like Jewel Quest is not going to be happy on that sort of PC.

Working in the blind as I am, there is a few things you could try though.

First make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card - and the latest DirectX

I should imagine the game is trying to switch to 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution, so the possibilities are either a very old 14 or 15 inch CRT monitor that can't do 1024 x 768 or a big modern TFT monitor that doesn't want to know about 800x600

You could also try turning the screen depth down to 16 bit graphics instead of 32 bit which it's probably on now

Right click the desktop, pick properties (win 98 up to XP) or personalise (Vista) to change graphics settings

I'll bet you're playing on an LCD monitor. Either that or your video card is incapable of supporting the resolution the game is being played at.

Well the card is pretty bottom of the range, but still capable of Jewel Quest.

Have you got an 'auto' button on the monitor itself? that helps on some flat screens

Do you know how to check the monitors frequency and how to change resolutions? Because you might have to do some experimenting to get it to work.

Take a look here if you don't

You'll need to press 'advanced' then the monitor tab at the top to change the monitors frequency

I don't know Jewel Quest's native resolution out of hand, but you might dig into the configuration files to see if there's a setting there.
