out of range

Mate gave me Tom CLancys HAWX to try out.

Installed it on the pc.. clicked the desktop shortcut and started it up.
went into the settings to change the screen size as I have a 22" widescreen monitor.... changed the res as well... clicked ok and just before the screen went black, caught sight of the res at 43hz
each time I go to run the game... it black screens and says out of range.

I've taken the game off.. reinstalled it.. deleted it off and manually gone thru the regestry taking any out any reference to the game I could find.
I've altered what could possibly be.. the config file for the game.. but still nothing.
pc is an xp pro mix between sp2 & 3
3 gig mem ddr400
amd athlon 64 3200+cpu
asus AH3650 512meg card..

I know someone will turn round and slag off the spec.. but I dont play that many games.. COD4 & 5 play fine on the system with no lag.. both single player and online.

So the question is.. how can I change the screen size and res IN the game with out being able to see it...

Try changing windowed=false to windowed=true. It's likely trying to change the resolution to a non-widescreen format.

The refresh rate is usually what's shown in hz, not the resolution.

Is there a safe run mode or anything?
for the moment, i'd agree. try putting it in windowed mode, and change the width to 800, the height to 600, and see if it runs.
Look on the official hawx forums, do a search and see if you can find anything similar. i'd search using the words "black screen" and "out of range".
