    Hi,

my PC was recently infected with Outerinfo - I un-installed it (using the un-install tool provided by them), ran AVG (which found several other threads and removed them) but the problem is re-occurring: every time I open a web page an additional page will usually follow.

Should I run Combo Fix or HijackThis yet or should I try other removal tools first? (i.e: malwarebytes, superantispyware or spybot)

    Thanks

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions. If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

    thanks chaslang,

my wife ran antispyware and after the scan the computer rebooted and never recovered - I only could have him work on safe mode - nothing else will work.
I'm planning on re-installing XP. any ideas?

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

    What is "antispyware"?

Yes run the procedure already given but run it in safe boot mode if that is all you can boot to. If you don't run the procedure and attach the logs that are requested, we cannot help you since we have no information to go on.

    Hi again,

SUPERantispyware - sorry for not being specific..
after the scan was finished the computer rebooted and XP couldn't load after that. It will only reboot in safe mode. Hope that will help.

Okay so as I stated in my previous message, you need to continue in safe boot mode and you need to attach logs from the scans.

The PC will not reboot in Safe Mode either - will need to reinstall the OP. Now, presumably the PC will be free of viruses and spyware, if I run SUPERAntispyware in conjunction with AVG a/o Avast, would this somehow interfere with one another?
    Thanks,

What changed? In msg # 5 you said it ran in safe mode.

SUPERAntiSpyware (aka: SAS) is an antispyware program and does not interfere with an antivirus program which AVG and Avast are especially since the free SAS is only a scanner and provides no active protection. Note: You must not run both AVG & Avast. Only 1 antivirus should be installed.

    You should see the below:

it did run but now it doesn't anymore - nothing really changed since yesterday. I get a black screen and nothing more.
After reinstalling should I run a check scan, just in case?

Yes but you should make sure that you have completed all of the instructions in the How to Protect yourself from malware! link first. Do this as quickly as possible after the reinstall to get the PC properly protected.
