    Hello,

I recently began experiencing a problem with Outlook 2000. It takes nearly 3 full minutes to open. In addition, sometimes after closing the program, the task manager shows it as a running process.

I'm using Windows 2000 with Office 2000 and have all the latest updates and service packs.

I did some research at Microsoft and they recommended that I delete the .dat files ( extend.dat, outcmd.dat, view.dat, and frmcache.dat) and restart Outlook.

Well, I did that and it seems to work, until I reboot the computer a few times and then it's back to square one - it takes 3 minutes to open. So, I'll delete the .dat files again and Outlook will work fine, but only for a few reboots.

Anyone have a clue as to what might be causing this??

    Thanks

Sounds like a corrupt PST. Try it in a new user account--it will probably work fine.

I followed your suggestion that it might be a bad .pst file and did some research.

There's a program called scanpst.exe that fixes damaged .pst files. I ran it and it found and repaired some errors.

So far everything appears ok. I'll have to see how Outlook responds over the next couple of days.

I'll post back with an update.

    Thanks for your help.

well the scanpst.exe may have fixed some errors in my .pst files, but the problem of Outlook taking 3mins to open came back after a few reboots.

I did a check of the sytem event viewer and noticed a few warnings that were all classified as Winmgmt event 41 errors. wmi adap was unable to create object index XXXX for Performance Library XXXXXX because no value was found in the 009 subkey.

I did a bunch of searching and found nothing that appeared to be a solution for this. That is, until I found AutoPatch

The main file is 250mb's and took a while to download, but after running it (making sure I checked the correct options first), it seems to have repaired the registry problems and the Outlook problems.

I'll post back if the fix remains fixed after a few reboots.

    Rick
