Outlook 2002 will not sent email

Try will try to make this fast. Very frustrating...need help. Hard drive failed. Windows XP Pro. Reinstalled Outlook 2002 on diff hard drive. I receive mail but cannot send, keep getting "unable to send test message please verify the e-mail address" when running "Test account settings". I have three diff. accounts set up and they all give the same message. I have set up to gmail servers....just like before failure.

All settings the same as before drive failed and set up as instructed from google....I triple+ checked all settings. Tried different port numbers, called ISP and they do not block ports. Installed and uninstalled Office XP Pro multiple times...I am getting no where. I researched internet and have not found the fix...some people fix but not sure how it was fixed. Looks like very many have had the problem. I feel it is software...not settings in Outlook. I have run out of things to try or settings to change.

Can anyone help so I can get on with my life? Your help is appreciated!

 

Try updating Outlook with SP3 if not done already (and reboot).

Changing the SMTP port to 578 may help too, if not already tried.

Just as a temporary workaround for you, your ISP will normally provide an on-line facility to access and write emails. Have a look at the homepage of your ISP.

 

Thank you collinsl and GCWesq for taking the time to respond. Have done all you suggested. Have attached test results with settings that worked before and directed by google. I do have access to email thru google gmail....just cannot us outlook 2002 to reply or send (incoming email works). I have multiple addresses that come thru outlook...more convenient to have all in one place for a host of reasons.

Using 578 gets worse results than 465 (attached pic is results of 465).

It is mozilla Thunderbird, the email client made by the same people who make the Firefox web browser. I personally use Thunderbird and I have no problems with it whatsoever. It is totally free.

 

I tried Thunderbird as suggested from collinsl as a test (thank you). I can send and receive mail thru Thubderbird....the problem appears to be in outlook and it is well hidden. Halo, I tried turning off all security....I had the same setting when it used to work before my drive failed....and it worked fine.

For some reason outlook thinks I am entering an invalid email address in my outlook account set up.

As I said....many have reported this problem but I could not find a definitive solution. As always Microsoft just walks away and tells you to buy another one of their products!:***
