I am using outlook 2010 with windows 7 for my email. I am having problems with the program displaying the desktop alert & playing a sound for new email. I have rules set up for this & also set up in the program options

Any idea what I need to correct

What do you mean that you have rules set to show alerts. Is this machine a part of a domain?

no it is not part of a domain, it is just my personal account

I created a rule that tells the program to show a desktop alert & play a sound when new email arrives. This is also available to set up in the options tab. Could the duplication be the problem? Outlook 2010 works fine on my work pc with XP Pro. At work I have no rules created just checked under options

First off, delete the rule. All you should have to do, is right click on the Outlook icon in Tasks, and then select to show pop-up and sound. You can also do this from options. Make sure that Actions are customized to show the Mail alert and Outlook icon all the time.

You could try a Mailbox repair and see if that fixes it. I no longer even use Outlook anymore on my home machine, have to use Office 2k7 at work, so I am pulling from memory here. If you want more info, there is http://www.slipstick.com which is really good for MS Server, MS Office info.
