I need to send an email with a PDF attachment to all the members (200 or so) of an organization that I am a member of. I have an Excel file with the names and email addresses. I was even able to import the file to Outlook's Business Contact Manager. I have sent a couple of emails from the BCM, and it is SLOW. But now I need to send one with a PDF attachment and don't see a way to send an attachment. I would prefer to have the names in a distribution list in my address book, but can't figure out how to do that from either the excel fill or the BCM.

I have Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2007.

Yes, I would like to create a distribution list in Outlook with the data from either Business Contact Manager or Excel. What the link shows is how to make a distribution list in Outlook from members/contacts already in the Outlook contact list. There is a difference between the Outlook contact list and the BCM contact list.

That looks hopeful, but when I followed the directions I still had errors. There was no selection to import an Excel 2007 file, but there was Excel 97-2003. So I went back and saved the Excel file as 97-2003 and tried again. This time I got an error - "Translation error, An error has occurred in the Microsoft Excel 97-2003 translator while getting the contents of a file system. The file has no named ranges. Use Microsoft Excell 97-2003 to name the range of data you want to import."

So I tried saving the excel file as a CSV file. This time a got another error, slightly different - "An error occurred while importing or exporting and the import/export was terminated. MAPI error 0X80070057 was reported. Please try to import/export again later."

    This is frustrating.

I had also (before posting here) tried this:

But I'm not sure where "Contact View" is. I tried File-New-Contact, File-New-Distribution List, File-New-Folder, and I tried from the Address Book and from the Business Contact Manager. Anyway, I was frustrated there, too.

The reason I mentioned Business Contact Manager in the beginning is the last time I tried to import the Excel file, it went into the BCM.

I'm sorry, I just realized that I made four posts and the first one has the error messages and I don't know if you will scroll back that far. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, please help!

I think I finally figured it out by saving the Excel file in many different formats until I hit on one that worked. It was not the one that the directions said, CSV Windows, it was, CSV MS-DOS.

It only took all day to do this and send out the mailing. But now I have the distribution list and will guard it with my life.

My company was going to use Business Contact Manager conencted with Outlook. But it seems like Microsoft only put out a half finished product.

the very FIRST thing we attempted to do with this program was to send a simple email to one of our distribution lists. BCM doesnt do distribution lists.

so we threw the peice of crap in the trash.
