outlook express 6 DBX files

I recently reformatted a pc running Windows XP SP3. Beforehand, I backed up all my emails (DBX files) in the store folder for outlook express. When I tried importing the DBX files I get the " message No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open" error.

I've checked the files properties and none of them are set as "read-only"


I've also tried downloading Windows Live Mail and importing the files with that program and still nothing.


I've read previous threads on the site here with a similiar issue and can't seem to get any headway...

Here's another approach you could try. Copy the DBX files into the current Store Folder, with OE closed, and then open OE and see whether it recognizes/opens the emails. You'll probably need to allow the copy procedure to overwrite the standard OE folders (Inbox, Sent, Deleted, etc.).

 

This fixed it!

I thought I tried this earlier, though I may have missed something being swamped with trying so many different things!
