My client uses Outlook Express 6 on a WindowsXP (Home edition) PC. Two nights ago she compacted her message folders (listed as Local Folders), and Outlook Express lost several of her Local Folders along with many of her messages in the remaining folders.

I searched the hard drive and found the folder containing the .dbx and .bak files (OE refers to it as the "Store Folder"), but I have been unable to get OE to recognize them.

OE recognizes SOME of her local folders, but not all of them, and I can find no discernable pattern to explain OE's choices.

How can I get OE to recognize these files and return them (and their messages) to the Local Folders list?:confused

    Thanks,
    Barefooter

    1. Open Outlook Express
    2. Go to Tools > Options
    3. Click the Maintenance tab
    4. Click the "Store Folder..." button
    5. Copy the contents of the text box to the clipboard

    6. Close Outlook Express

    7. Bring up the "Run" dialog box and paste the contents of the clipboard to it
    8. Click OK

This will bring up the folder that has your emails
Do you see the missing folders?
    Delete the file - folders.dbx
    Open Outlook Express
When Outlook Express opens it will recreate this file
