Outlook Express stole my Outlook mail!

Well this isn't fun. I run Outlook on my Mac at work, and set up Outlook Express on another machine in the office to do some HTML email things. I set up Express using my regular email account. When I opened Express, it downloaded all the messages from my Inbox-- great, I thought, that's what it should do. But when I went back to Outlook on the Mac, my Inbox was completely empty! It looks like Express stole all the message from the regular Outlook's inbox... I tried selecting all in Express and moving them over to "another account," choosing my own, and it started transferring them back to my regular Outlook. But it looks like it was too much for our server and it froze. I restarted everything and started up Express and Outlook to continue but then Express began downloading the messages again... So now I have one empty Outlook Inbox and one Express inbox with double all my messages. What's going on, and how do I get all my messages back to Outlook?

    To clarify:

Mac 0S 9 -- Outlook (always used this)
Win98 -- Outlook Express (set up today)
    • Both use my email address and mailbox
    • Had Outlook/Mac fine.
    • Set up Express/PC today.
    • Opened Express, it downloaded all my Inbox messages.
    • Inbox messages in Outlook all gone.
    • Server crash, restarted.
    • Express downloaded messages again; have duplicates of everything now.
    • Still no mail in Outlook. I can receive mail fine to it, it's just that all my old emails are still over in Express.

    What do I do?

    Thanks.

do yourself a favor and leave the messages on the server via this option in OE. In the account properties, advanced tab.. on the bottom for delivery options.

The messages *are* on the server, though. They've never been exclusively on local machines until Express on the PC swiped them from me.

Eh. I ended up taking a few hours yesterday and transferring chunks of email (150-200 messages at a time) from Express to my regular email account. Which, theoretically, should've just kept them in the Express mailbox but actually moved them over to Outlook. Go figure. It still would've been nice to figure out why it did that, but at least it's back to normal.

    Curses on Outlook Express.

unless specified, OE will download and remove them from the server. You MUST leave a copy on the server.
