Outlook Express Won't Let Me Type Message

I'm using Outlook Express 6 and XP.

It's always worked well, but lately, when I create a New Message, I'll type a few words and then it will jump away from the New Message window to the Outlook Express window. It's like someone clicked back on OE, keeping me from being able to type.

Even if I minimize OE, after a few seconds the New Message will blank out its menu and font tools and not let me type a word. Then I'll click in the box, and be able to type another word, and it will blank out again as it switches back to the OE window.

Only if I close the OE window and simply have the New Message (or Forward or Reply) window open can I type away without problems.

Any idea what's going on and how to fix it? Thanks.

Installed anything lately or changed anything to do with start up programs (which programs to run on start up)?

If you aren't experiencing any other problems, sounds like it could be a simple software conflict or settings conflict...

Maybe this could be the answer?

The only change I can think of is when I switched to BitDefender from McAfee.

And about the earlier post, it doesn't sound the same, since I can type fine as long as OE is closed, and IE works okay as well, but I just tried it anyway and couldn't figure this out:

Click Start, Run and type regedit and then enter the following commands (clicking OK after each entry)

I got to the Registry Editor window, but can't see where I'm to type in the commands.

Maybe it was the change to BitDefender? There are mail apps in security programs, etc.

I think this is what he meant. Go to start menu->run...then do the follwing:

Type this (no quotes)->"regedit regsvr32 mshtmled.dl" then click OK
Type this (no quotes)->"regedit regsvr32 jscript.dll" then click OK
Type this (no quotes)->"regedit regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll" then click OK

Then try and see if that fixed the problem. Could be the BitDefender installation is causing a conlict, but maybe this will reset the problem settings...

The strangest thing - after a week, today it's working fine. All I can think I did was sort my Inbox to subfolders, so maybe there was some GIF or something in one of them that kept popping up OE over the New Message.

Either that or the RegEdit attempt yesterday spooked it back into shape. :)

Thanks for being there, and I'll definitely try that fix if it acts up again.

    Acoustic Lou...

Just take the credit for it and tell everybody who it is that knows how to troubleshoot computers, the AL...LOL...:tas. I guess there's no way to explain computers really, but surely some other problem will pop up soon...

    :eek

    You are welcome
