If OE is NOT sharing its address book then Help/About in the Address Book shows where the .wab actually is located.

If sharing IS on no such info appears.

Where is the damn .wab / .pab whatever?

    Many thanks

What do you mean by sharing here?

Have you tried searching on *.wab? I believe it's normally located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\xxxxxx.wab

Yeah DomLuc I looked all through InsideOE and KF and elsewhere to be told if sharing is on .wab isn't used, and vice versa. And when switch to unshared address book becomes empty; switch back to shared all address book entries are intact.

So where is that phantom address book? no one says. Searches don't find it

usafveteran: yeah, that's normal, but I usually re-locate xxx.wab by the registry entry alteration. On this particular PC shared is in operation and I cannot find where the address book file is located?

More info: Why? To unshare it and get it into a state where it is caught by standard backup procedures.

Work-around? Export it. Stop sharing. Import it.

Problem: Heavy usage of Groups is scuppered as they do not seem to survive the export / import process. Individual entries survive OK but it will take hours of work to re-create the groups, and then there will be mistakes.

    The original question remains.

    Thanks DL

Done all that. Thunderbird may be the better way forward. That leaves the question of where Windows is hiding the shared address book file. Possibly now more an intellectual problem than an operational one.

    Again, on the money DL.

I can see the .pst just where they say it should be. Meaning, I see hidden files, etc.

Searching Docs & Settings yields no .pst files in existence.

But now I know where that address book is.

By default location it is buried.

You can create a new address book and pick a location...
