My company has about 300 or so pop based email accounts out sourced to a 3rd party company (they don't want to go to Exchange yet)

The 3rd party company just recently required outgoing SMTP authorization on all email accounts, so we have to call all 300+ users, request permission to connect to their PCs, and then enable the setting.

I think there must be a way to script this, is it a registry setting that can be scripted?

    I found the key here

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook\9375CFF0413111d3B88A00104B2A6676\00000002

What do you guys think would be the best way to deploy it?

I'd make it into a .reg file, then use regedit command-line switches in a batch file, and set it as a login script for the users. That way, the key would be merged on the machine's next reboot.

    Quick question though:
Are you certain about this key? It looks like there's an identifier string in the path. If that's the case, it may be different for every machine!

Maybe just me being paranoid, however.

I noticed that as well, and am going to take a look at some more machines to make sure.

looks like it's not an identifier. I have tried it on office 2007, 2003, 2000, as well as XP and Vista. It has worked in every case.

I just don't know how it will react on PCs that have more than one email account.
