Outlook XP will not open my .pst file from Outlook 2003

Hi All,

I thank you in advance for your assistance. At home, I recently upgraded from Office 2003 to Office XP, and when I attempt to open the .pst file to import my personal email folders, it says that the file is not compatible with "this version of the Personal Folders Information Service", and to contact my Administrator. Why would XP not be able to read the files from 2003? I could understand the other way around. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I had quite a few emails saved that I would not want to be lost. Thanks again.

In the Ms time line 03 would be an upgrade from XP, your going in reverse.
I believe they (MS) made changes to pst files in the different version that had forward compatibilty, not backwards. You can find software to extract the pst so you don't loose anything.

One change I can think of was file corruption when the pst got over 3gb? I think?.. I don't know the corp office here outlawed psts - all mail is on the corp server and we can't open old pst or create new ones either.

Well, that would certainly make a pretty big difference, eh? lol. Thanks for the info. I thought for sure that XP was an upgrade from '03. My bad. Unfortunately I uninstalled 2003, and I do not have the disk. I'll go from there. Thanks all.
