 Have installed Outpost from the recommended free list on this site---hit the update button and it said this version is out of date and said my security was at risk---wants me to download a 30 day trial subscription to Outpost Pro---did I download the wrong freebie or is this not really a freebie?---thanks in advance---

No---have never had Outpost installed---have an old Dell Optiplex GX110 computer with 128MB/XP/SP2/DSL---purrs like a kitten and always just used SP2's firewall---tried ZA but it loaded my system down BAD---was hoping Outpost was less of a load and it is---also---my security center does not recognize it---have turned off Windows Firewall---hmmmmm?

That version of outpost is, shall I say, outdated. Should be fixed. But, 128 megs of ram is rather low for XP. I'd recommend a memory upgrade. Ram is cheap nowadays.

If you chose to install the 30 day trial of Outpost Pro and you decide after 30 days you don't want it, will it keep working as the free version after 30 days or what happens?

It will continue to protect you, but it wont update, which can be risky

Just a thought try Comodo, I switched from ZA free to it for various reasons and it seems to be as good as ZA was and does not load down my system as some others do. It works for me, I know this does not answer your question Avondude on your Outpost, but it is one solution

I think if you reread Blades post you will see that he said it will not after 30 days if you get the trial version

BCGray, yes that's the Pro version. I asked about the FREE one that hasn't been upgraded to the PRO. If I assume then that the FREE version will not update either, what's the point of using it? Do any of the FREE firewalls update so as to keep you protected?

Yes there are many others such as the Comodo that I mentioned earlier in this thread, and many of them are available at Major Geeks here http://majorgeeks.com/downloads34.html

    BCGray,
I looked at Comodo but MG has given it a rating of only 3 whereas Outpost has a rating of 4.5, so this is kinda confusing to me. How come MG has rated Outpost Free better than Comodo, yet there's no updates anymore for Outpost which means your computer is at risk. I don't get it.

Rating: 4.17 (169 vote) for Comodo Downloaded: 11563 Times
Rating: 4.48 (95 votes) for Outpost Downloaded: 54196 Times

Is what I found here on MG, and like I have said before, I can only really tell you what has worked for me. If someone likes ZA, Outpost, I for one am not going to tell them to drop it unless I know that there is a major problem with the program. Most Firewalls preform about the same, the user features may vary, so each is free to chose the one that they like. I liked ZA free for years, before that CA's firewall and even before that Norton, and now Comodo seems to be working fine for me, but time will tell.

BCGray, where the heck did I get the 3 rating from? Your right it's 4.2, sorry about that.

Just out of curiosity, have you seen that new PCFlank Leaktest? It says only Outpost Pro and Tiny Firewall passed it. I'd be interested to know how Comodo fares with it. Have you tried it?
