Over clocking a intel celeron 450

I have a dell inspiron 530 with a intel celeron 450 cpu and a dell inc. 0G679R motherboard and I was wondering if I would be able to overclock it to run at 2.5ghz so I can run the sims 3?

 

Welcome aboard. I doubt very much that you could, check the BIOS to see if you have options to change the FSB frequency and/or voltages. To get to BIOS, while rebooting tap the delete key continuously until you're in.

Sorry, that's not the BIOS, try F2 or F8 as Dell never did follow the crowd.

Ya, you're out of luck there as Dell doesn't want anyone changing motherboard characteristics as they are built for a very low overhead(read cheaper). Maybe there's a cheap CPU upgrade for that motherboard on the Dell site that might be available on e-Bay though I personally wouldn't invest more into that machine. Sorry.

EDIT: BTW, would your overclock bring the CPU up to minimum or recommended specs. If it's the former then don't bother as it will be very slow and not enjoyable at all.

Also entirely possible that the OC alone wouldn't get you there.
Sims3 requires a graphics card capable of PixelShader3.
The 3 year old HP I'm on now can't even run it because of the graphics issue.
