Propiretory motherboards (like Dell) are not able to OC in most cases. (some you can change FSB). and changing mobos is a nightmare. My suggestion is save your money and built your own comp.

Ouch! No wonder your system is slow! The OS you have installed is TOO MUCH for your hardware. Overclocking isn't going to help much, if at all!

Since you have a Windows XP license, you should consider installing Windows 2000 on your box. The license is compatible (ie won't cost you anything - you can legitimately install 2000), and the operating system much less resource intensive.

In either case, I would suggest that you follow the instructions in the My Computer Is Slow thread. This will show you how to lower the demand on your legacy hardware.

imo buy a 512MB of DDR RAM.

I agree with the recommendation to install more RAM, but SDRAM in these quantites is hard to come by, and expensive. I would not recommend that you buy these retail. Its just not cost effective.

You are probably best off saving for a new system altogether.

i really need a new system, but i cant afford it rightnow. i dont have a copy of windows 2000 but i think i know someone who has one.

my motherboard has jumpers on it that say 233, 300, 333. i put a jumper on 333 and i checked my cpu speed and it had speed up. i took it back off because i didnt no if it wood overheat.

when i got the pc it only had 128mbram. i got it for free and all it cost me was a used moniter for $15.
i want 2 build my own system but i cant even afford that!:)
    thanks for all the suggestions!
