overclockin amd athlon xp 2800+

hi i want to over clock my processor 2800+ to run at 3200+....
i have choosen this items to keep the processor cool...i just want to know if
im making a good choice..thanks

The components are good ones, but we need to know what the rated FSB of your 2800+ is. IE, 333 mhz, or 400 mhz. The 333 can run at 2200 mhz, like the 3200+, but won't match it because of the difference in FSB. The 400 mhz might get very unstable at 2200 mhz, the difference in mhz is made up for by the FSB and the larger cache.

the safe rated speeds of the two 2800+ CPU's are XP2800+ (t-bred core, 256K cache) 2.250 GHz
XP2800+ (barton core, 512K cache) 2.083 GHz.

If you have the Barton core, and try to jack it 117 MHZ, you might get too much heat, and crashes/freezups. Also, without knowing what Motherboard you have, I don't know if you can seperate the mhz rating of the CPU and the memory. Your memory might not be able to handle the speeds you are trying to get.

 

Just as a note, I have a Barton core 2800 and I have had almost no luck overclocking it whatsoever. My chaintech board has overclocking support built in, and I'm running mushkin ram that has pretty decent ratings. I jack it by only 1 mhz fsb and its all beep and no boot.

 

well the motherboard is a ABIT NF7-S v 2.0

i have two 256 ddr and its not mushkin..its ram i bought at computer werehouse...dont know waht the brand is

 

Hi, I got the same setup, try using CPUcool i think its called.

I got mine to 2125, the problem with the 2800 is that it has had the multiplyer locked, I think you can unlock it with a pencil on some of the connections -saw it somewhere and cant find it again- I was just going to get a 3200 but they are locked as well and I cant see it making that big a difference based on benchmarking comparisons.
