Hi, I'm a noob at overclocking. I just bought a DFI LanParty UT NF3 Ultra (Socket 939) motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 90nm. I also have Crucial 1GB DDR PC3200 CAS3.0 Dual Channel Kit (2x512MB). I bought the motherboard because I heard it to be a good one for overclocking, so where do I start? I have good cooling in my case. I've heard it is possible to overclock this chip to AMD Athlon FX55 or at least AMD Athlon 64 4000+ speeds but I don't really understand all the technical stuff on other OCing guides i've read. I also have an Ati Radeon 9800 pro 128mb graphics card with arctic cooling, is it possible to OC this too? :p
    Cheers guys!

First I wanna say DFI is so different for stable OCing you will lose must time for this.
You can OC by login bios by changing FSB, ratio, Vdim, Vcore, timmings of ram, Vga, and so on....
    Trying and seeing :D

If it was me, I'd take a peek at www.dfi-street.com. While I could give general overclocking advice, I think it would be best to go to the source of your board. I have virtually every recent DFI board except yours. And yes, a good 3000+ Venice has the potential of upwards of 2.7GHz.

Once you get into your bios start bringing your FSB up and your CPU multiplier (if your crazy you can even raise the voltage!) but you would have to have EXCELLENT cooling for this!

jawa read this post I wrote

Its for msi,but its still nforce 3,you will have to set all those settings before you start to overclock,I'm not sure what keys you need to open the hidden features on your bios but try those anyways, understanding the way the HTT,memory speed and cpu speed all work is all important,if there any you dont understand however silly just post,it may seem like like a big complicated puzzle, its not all you have to do is take a step back ;)

check what bios you have, then search dfi's site read what the fixes are in the new bios's,if non pertain to a problem you are having dont bother flashing the bios

I dont get why someone has to make repeted usless posts that dont apply to the threads.
You have made my Ignore list, xp1

Use ati tool to OC the 9800 pro you should be able to OC to 9800 XT speeds farely EZ ( and i have a link here someware to 9800 xt bioses if your thinking of flashing the card to an XT )...as for overclocking the rest of you system....first off good choice on the mobo...
secound i need to know you speeds your at now ...
and third did you read this ??

sorry i dident get to this thread sooner....good advise mitro www.dfi-street.com is a good place for info on dfi OCing...

Hi guys, thanks for the advice so far!
    Here is my cpu-z info:
I bought the ram before reading the guides so its not perfect but i think it can be overclocked reading the general guide you linked.

Did you put your monitor face down on your scanner and scan it? ROFL! :D

first you need to download a few programs

    motherboard monitor to monitor temps

    http://majorgeeks.com/Motherboard_Monitor_d311.html

clockgen to adjust your fsb,cpu multiplier and cpu voltage within windows, although you cannot adjust your other multis or voltages with this utility clockgen for nforce 3 is the file you want

    http://www.cpuid.org/clockgen.php

3dmark 2001, futuremark.com ,this is a good test to show actual performance increase as it doesnt rely solely on the video card, you dont have to run a full test, you can just run the lobby test in high and low detail although lee accurate for showing small gains ;)

    sandra to benchmark your memory

    http://majorgeeks.com/SiSoftware_Sandra_d92.html

the easiest way I find is too use an old fashioned peice of paper to write down your scores set your detail performance slider in your video card options to performance and run 3dmark 2001 and the sandra memory benchmark and post the results here, its best to do this before you start adjusting stuff to show that your improving things

Only in single player games,in every other application including multiplayer gaming and windows browsing, the performance will be utilized,I do agree though the video card is somewhat of a bottleneck :)

I didnt say a multiplayer game wont be affected by a gpu bottleneck,it is you that said not to bother overclocking as it will not show any performance increase because of the bottleneck, the amount of players you can play against online is directly related to the speed of your system, irrelevent of your video card,if you have read any multiplayer manual you will have noticed this ;) ,note I said windows browsing,as in browsing through your OS windows, not internet browsing, although a faster system does marginally help web pages open faster

You have also assumed the system will be used primarily for gaming yet jawa has not stated this

:) I played chess against 64 players on a calculator  comparing unreal tournement 1 to a modern multiplayer game is just silly, any multiplayer game made in the last couple of years are hugely system dependant because of the sound, video, physics and(huge maps,a cpu killer ;) ),once the information has been sent to your computer via the net, where the other player is,where his shots are going ect, your computer then has to calculate whats going to happen in the next frame,"even if they are not on the screen,ie irrelevant of video card performance",more players, more calculation, more calculation,a FASTER PROCESSOR is needed.

What is your dram settings (timings) and voltages.
