    hey everyone,

    im going to overclock my AMD Duron processor 857MHz, 256mb of RAM, my dad will be helping me with it. However, what sort of overclock would i be expected to get once it is complete? ...or what would be the safest system specs to overclock?

    thanks =)

    - Gabriel

    Hi Gabriel and welcome to majorgeeks, that sounds a superb project to do with your dad :) it's great to do things like that and as ACE said above do read his guide as its great,

    one thing I will say is take small steps and dont rush in with big increases but have fun :)

    I think you'll easily reach 1gig with stock cooling, no extra fan needed. Durons are great for overclocking especially the older/slower ones. I got to 950 with my duron 750 without adding another fan, and it flew in quake 3. It's still alive today at a friends house (5 years old)!

    ACE :) Beastin' !
    I sold someone a machine once with a Duron 800Mhz processor. He asked me to reformat it and set up a broadband connection about a month later, so I went to do the job. When I turned on the machine it was making a horrible noise, like a grinding. I asked him how long that had been goin on, and he said about 2 weeks. So I opened the case, and the fan on the CPU had broken and the bearings weren't letting the fan spin, so he'd had no CPU fan for 2 weeks and it still ran sweet - no lockups. I remember you didn't really need a fan for a 386 or slow 486, but from the days of pentium 1's a fan was a neccessity. Durons are 'ard. Rock 'ard.
