Okay, most of the coders havent coded well designed games for dual core cough last gen. I play games like bf2, and some others but mainly bf2 and css. When I go overclock to something like 2.48 it sometimes stays stable but freezes and lock ups(i think overheating). I made this thread bc ppl have this same processor and easily get to 2.8 to 3.2....

But this made me really upset! Ohh I have a 6400, ppl with a 4300 that is clocked at 1.8 can max to 2.8-3.0. I cant, If I do it just freezes and locks up on me. Does anyone have any advice?

    My specs...

500 watt antec smart power 2.0
    7900gs
    intel duo 6400 at 2.48
    gigabyte ds mobo board
2 gbs of corsair EPP,sli cert ram, 4-4-4-12

I was wondering what im doing wrong....

what are your temps? also what are you running your ram at what davider?

also if you havent allready dissable speed strap.

try your ram on a lower davider and try to oc from there. if that dosent work give the voltage a little nudge. my buddy ran his E6400 at 417mhz fsb with 1.52 volts.

If you want a nice big oc get some DDR2 800 or higher.

also dont worry about the E4300's they are oc'in beast. just pad mod it to a 266fsb and you got a instant 2.4ghz E4300 on any mobo as long as it suports the 1066fsb. And that helps out alot on some mobos that dont like beaing oc'ed.

The e4300 has a higher multiplier so it's easier and cheaper to hit higher clock speeds, but as long as you have decent ram that's capable of doing over 800 Mhz, then you should be able to hit those speeds with your 6400.

You say you have a Gigabyte DS motherboard. Is it a DS3? The DS3 is a beast for overclocking, but some people have reported having problems with other models.

The C2D chips are great for overclocking. A know a guy who has his E6400@3448 431x8 with an ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro. His memory is a pair of 1GB Corsair DDR2 1066 PC2 8500C5 sticks at 4-4-4-12 1T tRC 11. If you really tweak your system, you can have some great performance boosts.

Just take your time, mess with voltages, and try to find that right configuration that will give your best performance out of a stable system. I'd recommend that you stick with the default multiplier of 8 as well. Don't go any lower than that.

Here's some configuration guidelines to get the best out of your system. Your motherboard might be different, but I'd imagine many of the settings would be found, just probably in different places. I have these exact settings for my e4300 and I'm rock solid at 2.8Ghz.
