Overriding other users fonts in my CP?

Like some 7%+ of the male population, I have defective colour vision. I'm currently experiencing some problems when working through certain threads here. Is there any way I can override the fonts in my UserCP? The best alternative that I see is the Ignore list, that would make what's left of the threads much easier to read but would leave them disjointed and wouldn't stop the problematic font from being quoted by others .

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Satrow

I noticed one of the said threads and red is a particular troublesome colour for those with visual problems.

I cannot see anything in the usercp as for options to have all the threads for you open with a specific colour of your choice, but will ping Tim and Jim on this as I agree with you and especially when your help in invaluable to many members here.

I can see the only option in being a global change.

Are they more visible if you highlight them?

Ok, some more faffing around, upgraded my browser to a testing version, played with default fonts and sizes, and I think I've found a setting that's almost usable ;) not sure what it's like for general surfing though, still need to test and tweak it a little more.

Thanks for the input guys :)

    Hi satrow

Good stuff, on the settings, I will still look around for something better, but I do hope in the meantime that as many don't use colour in the body of their posts (may do in the lounge) and apart from that new thread I know was the start of this post the other member that uses colour, uses generally purple.

I had a look to see if you could change the colour scheme of the forum, sadly we do not have any themes loaded and don't know if MA or CP would add one that better for users with visual impairments or not but I can ask.

Did look for accessibility option addons for Firefox and found this that can be easily accessed depending on the page you wish to view https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/reader/ (cannot try it myself as its not compat with Mozilla Nightly 6.0a1)

Thanks again, David, I'll look up that add-on later. For RAM conservation reasons mainly, 8 tabs is the equivalent of just starting up IE9, FX4 or Safari, currently 27 tabs open for 172MB, I use K-Meleon and the number of add-ons I can easily use is limited. The purple user never affected me much.

I'm currently blocking page colours too, a little extreme as it affects all sites, it may take some getting used to overall but I don't have a problem with red font, it's black now!

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Not a problem I had even considered.

satrow, does it bother you when I use color in links (usually bold Dark Green for MG, bold Navy for offsite)? If so, I'll stop - the colors are certainly not needed.

No, I never had a problem with that, they stand out well against the MG's theme. I do now have a problem with 'normal' coloured text being ignored by my current settings though ;) I'll keep working on it.

Perhaps more bothersome. Open wordpad. Copy the reply. Paste to word pad. Hi-light it. Change the color.

I saw the post in red and your reply on asking if they would change the color. Reply was they always use that color. Yup. Tuff to read and I'm not color blind. Old eyes, yup.

Kinda reminds me of something @ work. We had a strike on the rail-road. Years ago. Most strikes. As being a rail-road. Union strike, the government kicks in as important to the nations economy. Company goes to a judge, he usually puts the prob in binding arbitration. Strike ends, goes to binding. Sometimes it's over in a few hrs. No biggy.

Sometimes, a judge is not avalible or wants to take a day to review. This lenthty post is cutting to the chase.

One time, a strike. Took a day to resolve. One place went goofey in that one day. Days later the company closed the yard. By-passed all the traffic by being run thru's. No work. All there had to go to diffrent places. Most came to where I work. Driving 100 miles each way. System seenie. They show up. Ask them to do something. Tell me, we don't do things that way on where we are from. Tell them, we do things our way. Your here now, not where your from.

Using internet explorer? Go to Tools>Internet options>Accessibility ignore colors on web pages.

Not IE but K-Meleon, it uses much less RAM. I did have that setting on for a while but it does have several other side effects, I've now switched it off again and am relying on controlling font size and style, it reduces the impact of the colour juxtapositions and has (so far) fewer side effects elsewhere.

@ locodave: I'm a member of one small, newish forum, and from the beginning one of the rules was 'no fully coloured posts', there are still a few each month but the mods jump on it with a stiff warning then a temporary ban on a second offense! That's Germans for you ;)

Satrow, Your one of many here that really know computers. Us plodders, trying to make sence of what we know,-> me. Came into the sight for help. You have an issue with something. Asked on a correct.

What I really thought was Professional of of the sights aim. Ppl like you. Tryed to work around on members "I do this all the time" My signature. Asking other here for info. Triaxx2 showed me something I didn't know about IE.

DavidGP, Tryed to learn code years ago, forgot most of it. The host sight, might be able to change the code for the sight perhaps? My neighbor, Old puppy like me does programing. Next time I see him I'll ask him. His daughter is over tonight and I told her about it. She tells me the designer of the sight is the one to talk to. Changing the code. He's trying to teach her what he knows.

Hi You don't have to go that far as Vbulletin has themes that can be added and the user can pick their own theme from a list, however I don't know as yet if Tim/Jim would be willing to change, if you take into consideration the forum theme is military colours. We just don't have that enabled or any themes loaded.

I just though of him because he's been writing programs from the COBAL and RPG days. And still working with villages around here for creating programs for their use. Understand working with V-Bulletin is what they have for this sight.

Village installs outside water meter readers. He created a program for input from the person walking building to building getting readings with a hand held scanner. Up-load to the data base and creates a bill, prints it out for each homeowner for mailing. Does computer work for the police in getting info off a hard drive. Kinda stuff.

They tell him what their needs are and creates one for them. Wish I knew 1/1000 of what he knows.

Might get his mind twirling a bit as I know he likes a challange. Ask him if a color blind person was having probs reading colors on a computer. What could they do as an individual on their own computer.

Have you tried highlighting the difficult to read text? If you play around with the settings, you can convince windows to do some very unique things with the highlighting.

I've currently got windows set to highlight grey, which on MG gives me sharp grey text on a black bar.

One weird thing I noticed is that while on my phone (like now) the content colors all show as black unless it is quoted then it shows in originally used font. Size is unchanged, not sure shy this is. Might give a clue for solving it.

    Hi satrow.

I am one of the members guilty of using Purple in some of my posts to highlight something. :-o
Didn't realize that it might be a problem for some people, although I should have thought of that,
since my Father was red/green color blind.

It might be helpful if you could suggest some colors that Are Not difficult to read, especially with
the Major Geeks color scheme. ;)

That could then be used as a guideline for other members.
