overworking celeron processor

i have a 33mhz celeron processor that i am trying to keep running as a second computer for the kids.

i recently installed a new sound card that claimed it required pentium speed or better, and then tried to install a new external cd/rw drive 52x...that requires pentium speed or better as well.

i am already noticing a decrease in speed on the machine, and the external cd/rw is not installing correctly.

iomega's advice on cd/rw install was to install without any other proceses running...have not tried this yet, but will tonight.

what can be done to make these components work effectively on this machine? is there a sound card that wouldn't tax the system so much?

I think you would have a hard time getting the CD burner to work effectively on this machine at all. It would probably be a better idea to use it on another PC and just use the kids' machine to read discs.

As for the sound card, I would suggest searching for an older, compatible card on ebay. The problem you're running into is that hardly anything that you can buy off of the shelf today out of a place like Best Buy would work properly with a 33Mhz machine.

 

thanks for the help....could you tell me how i'd go about looking for a compatible card on ebay? what are the parameters that i'd need to look for? is it as simple as loooking for sound card for 333mhz machine? or are there other specifications?

Do you have any more specifics? Also, is it 33Mhz or 333Mhz? What Operating System? Motherboard? The more information the better.

 

it is a 333mhz, and OS is WIN2000....not sure on the make of the motherboard.

i searched ebay for sound cards for 333 mhz machine and found nothing...searched for sound cards in general, and found hundreds...i guess i need to sift thru those.
