    Hey guys,

first time poster here..... hope the weather where you are isn't as crummy as it is here in Rainland....

Just in the past few days I've noticed this little app in my start up folder called "owaftj.exe" I've searched for it on the net, but no joy....

I went into hijack this and deleted it, ran a registry clean, and a reboot...
it went away for a few hours and then came back....

It makes these log files... but I don't know why....

I'm running Windows 98se with a DSL connection....

I ran an adaware to see if it would get picked up but no joy there either....

    Anybody have an answer?

    Thanks,

    Bojinka

(PS: anybody here a fan of "Strangers with Candy"?)

Files like that , garbled, are usually created by trojans. Go through all the steps in the following link:

If it is bad then going those steps should take care of it. Post back if you have problems and I am sure someone will be able to help you out.

Yeah, I can't wait to see the Strangers with Candy movie. I just got hooked on the series.....

I followed yer advice... I dLed Counter Spy... I rebooted in safe mode, found the owaftj.exe and deleted it and it's log file.... then I ran counterspy over night and came up with all sorts of junk that Spybot and Adaware have either missed, or perhaps previously quarantined... I don't know enough about Counterspy to know if it "finds" things that other progs have already quarantined... anyway, as of this moment... no annoying pop ups.... and as of this reboot... no owaftj.exe.....

    Thanks for the help!

    Good times,

Who/where told you to download Counter Spy? That program is not listed anywhere on this site that I could find. And yes, not every program is perfect, that is why there are so many listed in that thread to run through. If you run all of them then you are almost, almost, guarranteed to have a healthy pc.

Glad to hear that your annoying problem is gone! Hope it stays away!

    Hey Destructo,

Counterspy isn't listed here? Oh. Okay. How did I find it then? I can't remember. But, as I say, I use Spybot and Adaware regularly. Neither prog picked up the Trojan... which is what you diagnosed... thanks again for that.... thanks a lot.... so, I got that Counterspy (14 day free) and it did the job.... it seems to have the same GUI as the new Microsoft Beta spycleaner... which doesn't run on 98se.... so... that's my story, and i'm sticking to it....
