P/C turns off randomly

My p/c will turn off (just like somebody pulled the plug) at random times. Once it is off it will keep turning off randomly during start-up. After about 20 times of pushing the on button it will normally run long enough to do some work on it. I have trouble shot all of the hardware. Two of my friends were having the same problem too. One reinstalled XP and the problem stopped. I have a Gateway 510 with 100Gb hard drive, 1Gb RAM and a Pentium 4 processor 2.8 GHz. I am using Norton Corporate Edition for antivirus and Spybot and Adaware for Spyware. They are all up to date and are not picking anything up. I ran Panda scan and it didn't give the option to print off a log.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi

You HijackThis log will need running again as laid out in the guide, as your log is run from Safe Mode, not installed in the correct place and not re-named to take into account some of the newer malwares that hide themselfs from HJT scans, it was also run before some of the other guides highlighting you didnt follow our guide step by step as laid out, those steps are designed in that order specifically to maximize detection and removal of malware, so its not giving an accurate picture of whats happening on your PC.

To be honest I would run the complete guide again as listed step by step and attach new logs, READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support [ Malware ]

You also have some out of date Java versions please uninstall the below old version/s of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Its not worth skipping any steps as it only prolongs the removals process.

I ran panda, but it can up with nothing and I didn't have a option to save anything. I copied what was showing for the results.

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to OTQJ ... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    OTQJ

If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.

Now exit and reboot when it tells you it needs to.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run CCleaner!

Now attach new logs from ShowNew and HJT!

How are things working now? I really doubt that any of the above is causing your problems. Problems like this are typically caused by hardware issues (which you say you have checked out) like temperature issues or faulty components on the motherboard. Or they may be caused by other problems within the OS, but this would be less likely then an issue with hardware.
