p2p spyware

My daughter goes to college and everyone she knows, almost, gets music via p2p.

She has asked me if Limewire Pro is better than the free limewire.
Is any p2p software better as far as spy-ad-mal-ware go? Bearshare pro? Is there any advantage to paying for p2p software?

I don't know what college she goes to, but I remember hearing about some colleges like UCLA are using a dorm p2p. That is where you can only get files from people at the school. It's pretty neat and I forget the name of it. I'll look it up.

As far as your question, pretty much any p2p program your'e going to get now-a-days is gonna have some sort of spyware. Here are the ones to stay away from:
KaZaa (offers a paid version without spyware)
Limewire
Audiogalaxy
Imesh
Morpheus
Grokster
Blubster 2.x aka Piolet (Blubster 2.0 and higher and Piolet are adware and bundle other adware)
OneMX
FreeWire
BitTorrent (Only the Unify Media version. Other versions are clean to my knowledge)



Good p2p programs without spyware.
WinMX (recommended)
Shareaza
E-Mule
Gnucleus
Blubster 1.2.3 (Later versions include adware)
Soulseek
BitTorrent
Direct Connect
Mute


So basically, if you're willing to spend it, go for it. If not, stick with WinMX. It's actually what I've used until I discoverd BitTorrents. That's another thread...

 

Shareaza is free and no spyware.. it also does torrents & eMule. But colleges are supposed to be filter/blocking P2Ps .. so she might ask around about troubles she could get into (besides the RIAA,MPAA, & whomeverAA).

Actually i use ares when i was in the dorms and it ran great. But what you should really get her is a net bios share scanner to share the wealth people are sharing.
