    Hello
I cannot download Dell manuals via pdf as it says page not viewable. I am the only one who cannot so I must have the problem. When I lower the setting from medium to weak in the Comcast gateway I can download them.
I have them but the problem is I am unable to get them at medium security and there could be an error with FTP.
Please see the attachment to further explain.
    Thank you
    Peter

That's a problem with Comcast and usually a good thing for most people. p2p should not be a factor downloading a PDF unless your using p2p for some reason, I can't imagine why. Same with FTP, really. In other words the 2 are not the same. Is your Adobe Reader up to date? If you have a link, right click and 'save' or 'save as' maybe?

    Hi MA
My Adobe Reader is up to date and I checked my file associations - PDF is Adobe reader.
I was told, as you say, of the dangers of P2P for non techs like me.
I guess I can conclude to leave the setting on typical which blocks downloads for safety reasons and not low.
I tried save as but Adobe Reader said it cannot open it.
I do have the manuals from friends and actually I can download if I lower the security.

I may be better off with a modem and my routerN300.?

I wonder why all my chums can download except me?

I thought the attachment would interest you.

Anyway, thank you very much for your prompt courteous reply.

MA -I just read your post over- do I have a problem with both of my pcs or is the issue with the gateway?

My money is on that Comcast router and settings. Since you know what you need to do, you might try some custom settings. If you're not using p2p, like torrent programs, then blocking isn't an issue. That said, some programs, like Steam, use p2p to download. You might not use Steam, but something else might use a p2p system if that makes sense.

Your buddies can probably download because it says the default settings are low (see that?) Try low and leave it there, it's good enough for most it seems :)

I was with MS who tried to fix the FTP issue. They are calling tomorrow afternoon and they do acknowledge that some, not all with 8.1 are having the same trouble. They even had the problem at their office with their pcs.

Thank you for paying attention to my issue and I will be sure to report back.

That is a great find, Plodr, thank you for trying. When I saw it I was sure we were on to something.

Unfortunately those are attended to and I tried again to no avail.

The smart screen filter gave me grief trying to confirm a password change at Ashampoo also.

The MS tech went through this machine thoroughly yesterday.

He also used his Win 8.1 machine and was unable to download the manual. He said they acknowledge there is an FTP issue.

I am getting a call at 1-3 this pm and will report the results.

If you Google FTP Win 8.1 you will find there are others with FTP issues who use Win 8.1.

I have used 3 browsers to try to download this manual and the only way I can do it is to lower the Comcast gateway setting from normal to weak.

I am getting a separate modem for the phone and pc and using my own router asap.
