    Hello! I have a P4P800-E Deluxe Asus mobo with a Northwood 2.8ghz cpu D1 Revision, 533mhz fsb. I run 2gb dual channel kingston memory with a SATA 250gb Western Digital, and a 256mb Geforce 6800 GS/XT. 600 Watt PSU.

    I think that i want an upgrade to a 3.4ghz Prescott SL7PP E0.

Is it worth the upgrade? Or will I not see much of a difference? Its only about $120 on ebay.

It's either this or I wait a couple months, hold out and go for a whole new setup since socket 478 is pretty much out now.

Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!!

hey, ive got that same mobo! awesome, isnt it :D anyways, i believe the best processor for it is the p4 extreme edition (3.4ghz, the SL7CH) which i have only been able to find on ebay. Just pick one of those up and OC the crap out of it, i can run my 3.0ghz p4 prescott at 3.6 no problem on this mobo but thats with water cooling...you should be able to get 3.6-3.8 on a nice air cooling setup

nice, yeah we have similar set ups! i read somewhere that this mobo cant handle the 2mb cache of the EE edition CPUs, ill try to find the link.

Indeed! But do you think the upgrade is worth it? from northwood to prescott. its about a 600mhz upgrade without OC and i'll double my cache and fsb speeds.

definitely a nice upgrade, im considering it for myself as well. check this out: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html

it performs quite a bit better and apparently the LGA775 P$ EE 3.4ghz is a gallatin core, not a prescott (the 478 is a prescott, isnt it?)

its not for 478, 775 rather, but it still gives a good comparison since the 2 chips are the same socket

Ofcourse! Now my only questions is....is the SL8K4 better than the SL7PP. probably a stepping thing, idk. anyone know anything about this?
