Hey chaps, I have been palying day of defeat since last year (half life mod), and whilst i had one connection to the internet, i had no problems with latency etc. Now, however, i have two computers connected on a wireless network. When in matches, or even playing, i disconnect the family pc, leaving my gaming pc on sole net connection through my wireless netgear router. Latency is fine, BUT every so often, at two min intervals or so, i get a sudden choke and loss surge (monitored by using netgraph_3 from console). It never lasts for more than a second, but the damage is done - anyone in online gaming like CS or DoD can tell you one second makes all the difference. The problem i think, must be through using the router/wireless network, because i never had this with a normal adsl modem. Any ideas on settings changes or whether this can be fixed ?

    cheers <3

and its nothing to do with interference either, just switched off all other stuff. Also on an encrypted network. :)

I've been having the exact same thing with CZ a week ago.

My wireless is a floor down and opposite end of the house but its still at 60 to 80% average strength.

I just lag out a lot and get the Net packet error, but lately its been alright, although I didn't really do anything.
The other two puters that are hooked up to the network, though not wireless, haven't been used much so there is no bandwidth to be stolen so to speak...

having any stregnth thats not 100% means you will get packet loss and cause lag.

In my experience with wireless, signal Quality needs to be 100% for O% packet loss but signal strength can be quite low and still have very good connection.

It could be interference, regardless whether everything is switched off or not. A large metal object could interfere, if its in the way of the signal. Have you tried a MIMO wireless router?
