Page cannot be displayed.. ARGH!!!

I've been getting the "page cannot be displayed" error and I just don't understand how and why it keeps happening. Sometimes it happens within minutes of getting online, and sometimes it could be an hour or more with no problem then it just happens when I try go from one site to another. It happens on both IE and Mozilla (though it happens more often on IE). I clear history, cookies, and temp internet files, but it just happens again and again. I've downloaded every update, and I've read and followed the scanning and cleaning tutorial with the exception of removing microsoft java and the Hijack This! thing. I'll remove the java tomorrow, but want to know if Hijack This! is really necessary since it seems to me to be a big pain in the arse to go through. So if anyone has any recommendations that are easy for an idiot to understand I'd appreciate it. TIA.

ps: I guess all my scanning was done in normal mode because when I pressed the F8 key nothing happened no matter when or how many times I did it.

If my computers specs are needing to help you help me, well I'll need instructions on how to find that out because I have no clue whatsoever.

 

Hello - Just a thought but why not try to download and install (free) the latest version of Sun Java. Had a similar problem a fair while ago and Sun Java saved me.
