Hi all, im new to majorgeeks and just wondering if you can help me with my probelm.

For some reason certain websites on IE, on my computer will no longer load, and before you ask they are not illegal or porn. for example www.ff1.co.uk no longer works. but its not all sites as you can tell as this website works. but the sites do load on my dads laptop which is part of the same wireless internet connection we have.

Ive tried everything i can think of, i went through all the stages you tell us to before asking for support, which did discover a few things i didnt even realise i had. ive reset all my interent setting to default, tried a different interent browser such as Mozilla FireFox and im losing patients. PLZ HELP!!!!

Now please download Hoster and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster
    • Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program.
Now tell me how things are working. If still having problems, run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

thanx for helping me out but unfortunatly the problem is still here.

I dont know if this makes any difference or not.
In IE the message "The page cannot be displayed" is shown
and in Mozilla Firefox the error message
"The operation time out when attempting to contact ....."

Ive attached my hijack this report aswell

    Thanx again

    Did you run Hoster?

    Also do the below:

    Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Ok ive tried Hoster twice now and still no luck.
Although one or two of the site keep coming back but then goin again but the one it started with (www.ff1.co.uk) just will not work, ever.

Ive also reset the web settings as instructed but that hasn't work either. I tried to access the site by using proxify.com aswell and then viewing the site through that, and that worked but it still wont load up normally.

thanx for helping me out, any more suggestions.

    jarcher I can't handle a title

make sure you have system restore disabled
    Disable And Enable System Restore

    run hjt
    and check these:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.btbroadbandstart.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1
    O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.btbroadbandstart.com
close evrything except hjt and click fix

then follow the steps chas gave, again
    reboot
    just checking if it works
you can always put them back
and restore them from the backups in hjt if not effective

ok tried as suggested but again no luck. Thankyou for helping me out, i know it seems like a pointless cause; that a only few websites wont load, but its really bugging me as to why they wont.
I am really getting annoyed with it now. and a little crazy, has no-one else had the same problem, ever.

I do not believe that http://www.btbroadbandstart.com/ is a problem. In fact it is probably his ISP.

    Daveboy,

Click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK.

This will open a command prompt window. In the command prompt window type the below commands each followed by the enter key.

    ipconfig /flushdns
    exit

Now try your sites. Do you use a router? If so, what brand?
