Page cannot be displayed

When going to several websites and when attempting to post at MG I get the message in IE that says "The page cannot be displayed". I remember having this problem once before and I know it's a setting somewhere but I can't, for the life of me, remember where.

Windows XP Pro, fully updated.

 

I had a problem similar to this and fixed it by making sure "automatically detect settings" is checked in connection settings and "Client for Microsoft" is also checked in the setings.

I had this problem but for me it was much worse- I couldn't open ANY pages.. I could connect, but got the web page could not be displayed. Another thing I did to fix the problem was reset my password with the ISP..

 

Still no joy.

You probably already tried--but did you try to restore defaults in internet options--Advanced tab Just a guess because I had a similar problem that was fixed when I did this.

Ok, I was having the same trouble attempting to post the previous reply. The progress bar started but it was very slow (heading for the impending error in IE) when I stopped it. Disabled my firewall and refreshed. Viola.....post, posted.

 

Now that I've waited long enough for the 60 second limit to expire on posting, I've enabled my firewall to see if I can post with it active.

 

Since I can now post with and without the firewall active I am left to assume that it was a problem with the windblows hotfix. Thanks for another good one Bill.

Just remove Hotfix Windows XP Q.....310 and you should be fine.
also the latest lot of crap from micrococks has problems as well.

Cashy, so you're saying we should stay clear of this service pak and not install it?

 

What Service Pack? There ain't no Service Pack. Just a hotfix or two for 2000, XP, and Server.

 

I meant to say quick fix or patch or whatever yopu cann the windows update files.

 

Well, there are two recent ones (last ten days or so): KB824105 and KB824146.

I've had zero trouble with them, and I haven't heard of any problems (that were actually caused by the patches) with them yet.
