    How do you resize a webpage in Firefox to fit the screen without scrolling. The instruction I read was to go to Edit/Preferences, however I don't have Preferences there or under anywhere else in any of the menus.
    There was one webpage which was too wide, so I had to keep scrolling back and forth to read it.
    Thanks!

    Thanks! This is good. Haven't found an answer yet, because I immediately got distracted by other topics, but I'll keep looking.

    Edit > Preferences is the Linux version, in Windows it's Tools > Options. But what you need is a bookmarklet: Go to Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > New Bookmark, paste this in the Location field:
    Code:
    javascript:(function(){var D=document;F(D.body);function F(n){var u,r,c,x;if(n.nodeType==3){u=n.data.search(/\S{45}/);if(u>=0){r=n.splitText(u+45);n.parentNode.insertBefore(D.createElement('wbr'),r);}}else if((n.tagName!='STYLE')&&(n.tagName!='SCRIPT')){for(c=0;x=n.childNodes[c];++c){F(x);}}}D.body.innerHTML+=' ';})();
    Give it a name you'll recognize, like "Fix Wide Page", click ok. Click on it when you have the problem, most of the time it will fix it.

    I should mention that it won't work if there's an oversize image too wide for your screen, only with text.

    ahhh ... that's what the problem was ... someone posted a screen shot in the middle of an article that caused the whole page to be too wide ... hmmm, so there's no way to reduce it then? I'm new to Firefox and trying to get used to it. For instance, when I logoff here on one of the tabs, I'm still logged on on all the other tabs. I don't know how to log off all of them at once.

    nothing you can do about idiots that post huge images on forums except complain that they should have put it on an image hosting site and posted a link. Maybe they'll learn, eventually. But sometimes the wide page is caused by a long URL being posted, and sometimes it happens for no apparent reason - in either of those cases the bookmarklet works.

    As for other tabs not being logged out - the browser has cached the page in the state you were viewing it in, if you reload it you'll find that you are logged out.

    Don't know why I never thought of that, it should work. :eek: I may try that myself, if I can force it to work in the "Bon Echo" (Firefox 2.0 nightly) builds I use most of the time. I've heard of that extension, but could never think of anything I needed it for.

    Very old thread, but back to the same problem!

    When I use Firefox to post in the forum, the windows I submit scroll out to the right to infinity. I use Notepad a lot in here. If I set Notepad to use Word Wrap, it creates unnecessary line breaks in my psots that I have to correct. If I don't use Word Wrap then my posts go out to the right forever just as they do in Notepad. In the past when I ran into this problem it was possible to fix it by changing my screen resolution from 800x600 to 960x600. Now, unfortunately, even at higher resolutions than both of these this problem does not get fixed.

    Any advice on what to do about this?
