PageFile Defrag

Is this a recommended operation and if so, in what circumstances? Thanks.

There is a registry key you can add that will dump the pagefile, and recreate it after every reboot of the computer, which does slow the shutdown process.

 

Doofus + Registry Key = Trouble.

Did come acrooss PageDefrag, thanks. Does Diskeeper Lite defrag the PF? I know a lot of the pay-for functions are disabled in (free) Lite. If it does I will probably go with that.

 

I have Diskeeper Professional, and my version doesn't defrag the page file, so I would be surprised if the Lite version did.

It has frag shield, but that is just to adjust the size of the page file.

I use PageDfrg to do both the page file and Registry hive.

 

I use pagedefrag every now and then, it seems to defrage everything but the pagefile though.

I can't remember where I read that Vopt defrags the pagefile (I can't find it on their home page) but I know I read it somewhere

 

If you use a fixed size page file the theory runs that you do not need to defragment it.

Turn off paging
restart
turn on paging and set size = 1.5 times RAM memory for most systems.
