    this page: http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Philippines

has about 80% of it "blacked out" until you roll over.

i've seen similar for a line here or there to cover up a plot spoiler or a quiz answer, but not an entire page!

same treatment in IE, FF and Opera, fwiw.

    what is the purpose?

I've no idea why a page with such derogatory content would have a <span class="censored">, but given the content of other articles linked to on that page with class="mw-redirect", I'd be more than happy if such sites didn't exist.

Mainly it is a Wikipedia look alike that is not as well regulated or moderated.
If you read some of the other articles they have published you will find that the content is less than informative and the use of four letter words does not help.

yes, it is inane drivel, but so are The Onion and Stephen Colbert. so what? does "spoof" = "black mask"?

the use of 4-letter words there is far less than on some political or, ahem, ahem, PORN sites, and yet THEY don't attract censorship masks. why THIS site?

are you sure this is censorship -- including by site itself -- and not some weird HTML glitch?

i was expecting answers blaming my BROWSER...not the blab on the page.... (hence "software" forum)

It's definitely not an HTML glitch, all the blacked out passages are of <span class="censored">, you can verify this by looking at the page source - right click on the page and 'view source' or 'view page source'.

Sorry for the OT comments. :)

so who sets those classes? the entire SITE is set up as satire; i cannot imagine the SITE OPS being the least bit offended with anything on there. if anything, they prolly write half the pages themselves!

filipinos are notorious for fighting back against perceived "slights" (google: art bell). is this a case of hacker activists defacing the page?

np on the OT. i hope i didn't give the impression that i actually ENJOY that site! just wanna kno about the masking issue.

This link will show you the Common.css used as one of the style sheets on this article, just scroll about a third of the way down the page to /* Censored text style, and clear text on rollover. */

It would appear that this is just one of the many style sheets that Uncyclopedia has available for contributors to use.
