Palm Zire31 sync operation gone bad

I have a Palm Zire31 and the associated desktop software. In an attempt to sync data from the desktop application to the PDA (which was empty due to a previous problem), all data was lost. It looks like the PDA data was written to the desktop instead of the other way around. Hence, the desktop software now contains exactly what the PDA does...nothing! Does anyone know of any way to recover the lost data or revert to previous file contents?
