Moved to the Software Forum where you can get more independent responses.

Panda has not even been in the top 10 of any recent reviews I have seen Personally I have not used it so I cannot rate it myself. If you are look for a paid version of software, you may be better off with either BitDefender or Kaspersky, or possible even Norton. They have all been rated the highest in recent reviews. That does not mean it is bad. It just means it was not top group. But these reviews are subject to the fact that these protection programs change frequently and what is best today could be worst next week.

You can check out one review source below.

    Panda is still reasonably good.

    Hi

Not tried Panda Full version software but last year I did test out Panda's Cloud AV and it was ok, however I know that I have a fairly secure PC and surf and download from safe sites, plus I know what should be running on my PC.

Now this is the crux and I agree with what Chas mentioned above in that Anti-virus applications are very fluid to how effective they are, so the best NOW as Chas mentions may not be the best in the future.

Which is why some basics in getting a PC secure as you can is worth while spending the time on and it does not have to cost you anything (apart from some time and a few mugs of coffee) as many of the free software's available can secure a PC very well.

A great guide to read is this one How to Protect yourself from malware!

When it comes to malware protection, every user will have a different setup, but most will have the core applications mentioned in that guide, some are built into Windows and your Router.

Others like Spywareblaster is a tool to add known bad sites to the exceptions list of your browser (works with Firefox and IE) and does not run in the background so does not take up any resources of the PC, this tool is one I would always add to any PC.

The rest is a good reputable Anti-virus and Malware scanner, I choose Windows Defender as its built into Windows 8, but Microsoft Security Essentials I find is good for other Windows versions (Avast, AVG are also good in their free versions).

Firewall I use the build in Windows one as from Windows 7 upwards its been a good app. Plus my router has its own firewall.

Then the big things in security, are:

Keeping Windows and all of your software up to date and Windows has Windows Update for this, but for other software's I tend to add Secunia PSI to PCs I build or fix for friends etc as they don't always manually keep their software up to date, so this takes the task of checking all the apps easier.

Then there is what you do on the internet, where you surf, what you download as downloading from unknown sites and from torrents can give you malware as an anti-virus application may not stop a file as it was you as the user who initiated the download and install. So all that glitters in regards to free music, movies and naked famous folk is not always golden!

When surfing the internet and you get popups, don't click them without reading them as they maybe hooks to malware, its best to kill the internet page as even clicking the [x] to a popup may not be real but the ok to install.

I know this was a hell of a lot more than you wanted but well I had some time today, but above all surf safe and ask questions if you see anything weird or unusual on your PC, better to ask than have to re-install your PC.

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

If you use Firefox i have some add-on's here that can and will protect you further.

If you understand and know who to use the Firefox about:config section here is a couple of tips on disabling two things.

    First one is
1.Enter about:config in your address bar.
    2. Then in config search for dom.ipc.
Then in this section you will see the value ones that say true make them false.
And then you will have to add these below to make it not pop up in the task manager.

Make these all boolean and make them false
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nptest.dll

These extra add ons will Disable Plugin-Contaner.exe if done correctly. Plugin-Contaner.exe will slow down the Firefox big time if not make it crash.
make sure you make all the other Boolean options that is not in that list false too to disable plugin contaner.

2nd option here is to In about:config (typed into the Awesome bar), search for browser.newtab.url and double-click it, set it to about:blank.

    And here are these add-on's

    AdvertBan 2.3.1
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adban/

Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus 1.2.3
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/elemhidehelper/

    Adblock Plus 2.3.1
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/?src=ss

    Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon 0.8
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus-pop-up-addon/?src=ss

    Adblock Edge 2.0.4
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-edge/?src=ss

These are really good add-on's they help keep out them annoying ad's and popups.
And the first two options help speed up browser.

My browser takes less then 30sec to load a page.
