So wth am I doing wrong? I've downloaded a couple different versions of Paragon back up and/or drive copy and whenever I try to use them, my machine won't boot afterwards. I just did a "snapshot" of my computer and saved to an external drive. Unplugged the drive and all was well until I tried to reboot. Windows hangs and I just get 4 dots on the screen (just after the screen where you can choose f12 or f2. If I plug in the external drive before rebooting, then it boots fine and it appears that I am booting my machine and not an image on the ex drive because I have today's emails. Any idea wtf I'm doing wrong?

Try using the 'safely disconnect' icon in the tray before pulling the plug on the ext HDD.

I do and I did, this is not the first time this has happened with Paragon. The first time, I thought, gee, how lucky am I, I just made a back up and now my machine crapped out. Turns out, making the back up is what crapped it out.

hehe :-D maybe take a look at Easeus Todo or Macrium Reflect? Very few reported problems with either of them, though personally I've always used Acronis.
