Partition and Formatting

I want to partition my hard drive, I know how to do that and all. The thing I was wondering was, say I wanted to put just windows on a small partition of my drive and put all my games and documents on the other one. So if I have a problem I can easily format windows and start over if there is a problem I can't fix. Another thing I'm wondering about is the registry, what would happen to all my games? Will I have to re-install to put them in the registry. I want to do this cause I have steam and I own a lot of games off their and they need to be downloaded which takes a while.

You don't say which OS you are using but if you partition your hard drive and repartition as you say, and install Windows in its own drive then formatting the windows drive and reinstalling windows will lose any registry link in the reinstalled registry of the other programs on the other drive.

I am using Windows XP Home. And what you said was what I thought but I was just making sure. Is there a way to backup just the registry for the games?

 

Well you can always save and reinstall your old registry using something like ERUNT (a Freebie) but it would probably negate the whole reason for doing a clean XP install - because by reimposiing the pre formated registry you will just be back to square one again with all the junk! My advice wold be to bite the bullet, and start from scratch again.
