A friend of mine has been trying to take his sony vaio laptop (ENVY)
which has Windows 7 on it,
and partition it- to add Ubuntu 11.10.
he has the Wubi installer on his HDD,
    and on a disk,
as well as ubuntu 11.10 32 bit and 64 bit on disks.
Every time he tries to install Ubuntu 11.10 thru the Wubi installer
weather from either disk, or direct download
the Ubuntu OS functions properly once,
    but after shutting down once
    then restarting,
it freezes at the blank purple screen just before the proflie chooser screen.

    any ideas?
    any help?
maybe some decent instructions on a web page somewhere?

    Thanx in advance,
    FoilHat

BTW: i created this thread as opposed to replying in the similar sticky because of the newer OS versions involved. If Im incorrect in doing this i apologize. sry

Is Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit?

Does either disk allow boot to live session prior to install? The friend may need to alter his BIOS to "Boot From CD" to allow full use of the install of Ubuntu.

You will find help also on The Orange Forums
