ok...a while ago I added Ubuntu to my comp..and blah blah..make a long story short..I have my Windows partition set at 50GB...the drive is 100GB.. I have 20GB of unallocated space on this hard drive...how would I add that unallocated space to the Windows partition?

it's dangerous and you could possibly lose all your information, but partition magic will let you add memory to different partitions.

haha. I'd rather not take the risk. any other way?...annndd...theres this odd thing happening now...when I try to transfer files from my external to a partition on here...after about 2 mins of transfering..It will say "cannot find such and such file.." and I have to turn off my external and turn it back on..

What you can do with that un allocated partition is to format it and use it as like a logical drive.

All your usb/firewire drivers up to date?

awesome, other than that i dunno really, i'll have to ask around to see what comes up. Call the manufacturer of the external to see if they have any ideas.

And to format that unallocated partition to make it usable and not hurt anything, right click on my computer and go to manage, when your in there go to disk management, then right click on the unused partition and click format.

Guys, there is a 3rd party disk management software wich allows to do different operations with partitions without formatting and losing data. I use Disk Director. I frequently repartition my hd: merge, copy, resize and so on. It is realy work and work well!

The problem is tho its' not a 100% perfect operation. Merging partitions together without formatting afterwards isn't a very good idea. The MFT looks crazy, it jumps around, and your not going to have top performation. I've been in this business for years and it only works 75% of the time, and only about 25% of the time perfectly. Partition Magic does the same thing disk director does.
