help needed! I'm limping along on a 6 yr old ME that freezes all the time so I must be brief! My granddaughter was given a functioning Win 2ooo professional 1.2G (or bigger)computer, worked for awhile but now the fellow who gave it to them can't remember the password so they are stuck on the "user name" (says administrator) password screen. Do they need to access the black with white letters opening screens? I believe that was a 1 keystroke deal which key?
better get this off before I freeze!

If you mean safe mode ...try f8 .....while in safe mode you should be able to reset passwords ....however, I would first just hit enter at the password screen to see if maybe he forgot that he didn't set a password.

They had tried that, I'll wait untill more savy mom is back home and she can tell me exactly what happens on that opening screen. (safe mode?)
Thank you so much for the quick response I had to go feed 22 horses before I could get back here. I'm going to read some posts, get my system information, back up my images and come back for some help with my computer problems. These are most likely software issues(?) is that where I should direct my posts?

To Tim: I found this info on the internet, sure hope it resolves your issues so yall can get in, good luck!!
If my Windows installation memory serves me correctly, there are no "default" passwords for enabled accounts as Windows 2000 and XP require an administrator password upon installation and the guest account is disabled by default. If you still have administrator access, you can simply go to Setting/Control Panel/Users and Passwords and reset a particular account's password or run a program such as Proactive Password Auditor. If you don't have administrator access, check out NTAccess for a solution to reset the administrator's password.

We have not resolved the password problem, did get a new operating system disk from a friend, now we should just have to change the boot sequence in the bios. Is this where we need to hit F8 on boot up to get to boot sequence? Dosn't seem like this should be so hard! Poor 13 year old is suffering from lack of internet access! You don't realise how much you use the internet untill its not accessible!
Thanks to major geeks my old system is functioning with just a couple freezes a day.!
    Thanks allot,
    Lyn
