password on word

    I want to thank you at Major Geek support forum for being there for an elderly person such as myself who would have no where to turn with a computer problem. A friend of mine purchased a computer from a company that was going out of business. The told her they removed everything from the computer. She then purchased Word and installed it. When she tries to open word a window comes up with "What is Rachel's password?" Is there anyway to eliminate this???? Once again thank you for all your kind assistance.

    Hi Wadda

    Whats the Windows version of that PC, as it may seem like they have not removed everything and their could be a user account still on the PC.

    Does this happen with any other application?

    If you goto the User Accunt section of Windows and this is for XP HERE but the images are of help, what are the names of all of the accounts, and if you create a new account as a test can you access Word ok?

    If not XP then let us know and we cna give steps for that versions access to user accounts, however if Vista or Win7, then just type in the Start Search box user accounts and it will list.

    at first it happened only with word, but now when we turn computer on the company name appears and requests a password. We cannot access the control panel to see if anyone else was listed as a user.
