When I tried to use my computer today (HP, Vista), the system got as far as the password screen. The system would not let me enter anything in the block. If I just hit enter, then I got a message that "password needed to be changed: Basically the computer either shut down or told me that I needed a password disk. I don't remember having one and if I did I don't know where it is. Is there a solution without losing everything on my computer? Thanks for any help. Diane

Unhappily you will not find any help on passwords on most forums due to the difficulty in proving ownership. A Google search wil probably reveal numerous programmes that will recover passwords but your best advice is to contact the laptop dealer in your area for help but be prepared to provide proof of purchase.

Does the password screen come up before Windows loads or is it your normal Windows account login?

    When you say
Do you mean that your keyboard is not working?

I would imagine he means the "square allocated to entering the password".
