so I'm trying to figure this one... Pavilion zv5240us notebook; everything working great now except that it will not charge a battery. tried original battery and nothing.... ZERO % charge. will not even attempt boot from battery. Bought brand new battery. put it in. plug ac in... notebook works fine and the little zapper light on the front indicates [supposedly....] charging but then it fails. Zero % charge exactly as before.

this can't be firmware, can it??

anyone seen this before? I've seen low batteries. I've seen batteries that would not hold a charge for more than 10 minutes, but I've never seen stone-cold DEAD, nothing, not even a hint.

I suspect a solder break somewhere in that circuit

    ????

I've seen it before; it's a fairly common laptop problem. The charging circuit has gone kaput... there's not alot you can do: either live with it and use the AC adapter, replace the motherboard, or buy a new laptop. Mobo replacements in laptops are usually a minimum of $250 (parts & labor), so a new laptop may be the way to go.....
