PC Angel Recovery Partition

I'm using XP on a Gateway Notebook. It is 4 years old and just today, while trying to view a DVD, I got a popup stating "PC Angel Recovery Partition Warning: This area of your hard disk(or partition) contains files used for your system recovery. Do not delete or alter these files. Any change to this partition could prevent any recovery later." I've never seen this before and never even knew it existed. It pops up everytime I try a different DVD. I've Googled it and several people have had the problem, but no specific answers except to totally delete it and then you won't have a recovery partition. I show movies at a Sr. Citizens Center with this laptop and I need it. Thanks for your help.

 

I know this is an old post but I just fixed one of these so wanted to share what I have learned.

PC Angel creates a recovery partition but you will normally not notice it is there unless something happens to the primary partition. They do not lock the primary partition as other posters have stated.

In my case something had gone wrong which left the primary partition visible but impossible to work with. The computer would not boot though it would try. I pulled the drive and stuck it on a USB adapter and could only see the recovery partition. Trying to select the main partition caused Explorer to hang.

This was a Western Digital drive so I downloaded their test program. The quick test passed with no problems so I ran the extended test. It warned this would take hours. In fact it took over 15 hours! When it finished it admitted that there were some bad sectors and asked if I would like to try and repair them. I said yes of course. This process seemed instantaneous as Windows almost immediately brought up the screen that showed I had just plugged in the disk. I was able to recover all of the missing data. The PC booted happily when reinstalled but I decided to replace the drive with a larger one since it was only $50 and I didn't trust the old drive.
