I had a thread a while back about how I had lost the 'click' sound when navigating web pages. That was on my home PC and not a huge deal. However, I'm working on a Dell laptop (XP Home SP2) that clicks constantly!! I'm running a MalwareBytes scan as we speak, and it's clicking about every 10 seconds or so, maybe 20 or 30 seconds. I turned off the wifi, and made sure the ethernet cable was unplugged, but it is still clicking like it's doing something. You know the sound, the 'navigation' click when you're browsing the web and click a link.... this laptop is clicking constantly. Wuzzupwidat?

Do you have a browser open when this happens?

Have you tried to locate the sound to see if it is coming from the internal speaker, or whether an actual component is ticking? Or are you hearing the sound through your main speakers?

Try using some tube to your ear and the other end to the various components in turn to attempt to locate which is making the noise.

See anything in device manager that might generate clicks? Maybe the person installed a program to keep the mouse moving so the screensaver wouldn't fire up.
Someone elsewhere downloaded the free pro version of ZA firewall and it caused windows to beep constantly. (No beeps in linux so he knew it wasn't hardware).
