PC clock slowing down

Hi

My clock on the task bar seems to be slowing down. I ran the virus scanner and adaware but nothing came up. Any ideas? I'm running windows ME (yes I know- the mistake edition). I've reset it but I've noticed that its lost a few minutes after a day or 2.

Any advice?

 

Sounds like the CMOS battery on your motherboard is dying. They're fairly easy to replace. Shops that repair watches etc. may well stock a replacement, just take it in with you.
The CMOS battery looks pretty much like a coin, and should be fairly simple to remove.

 

If your computer is more than a few years old, it could be a sign that the battery which powers the clock, after you switch off the main power, is about to die. Try replacing it

Heres a pic, on the rhs there are the blue and black plugs for HDD and CD Drive and the battery is diretly below that, very much like a watch battery.

 

Just to add note about the Battery
Yes, the battery is a commom watch battery but you must replace it with one of the same exact voltage.
The last one I bought was only $1.99 at local grocery store it was in the same display as commom AA batteries.

Removing/replacing of the battery will reset the system CMOS, no big deal but it will return the system BIOS to it defaults settings
After replacement you will need to access BIOS before booting to windows to atleast set the time & date, you should also check all other settings
If you dont do this some programs might not work correctly, bad time makes them freak out & other settings even default ones can affect overall system performance.
