Last night on the guest account of my PC, I suddenly got infected by PC Defender Plus. I don't know how I got it because I was not downloading anything, just surfing sites I usually do. It wouldn't let me run any programs on the guest account and soon it replaced MSE. But I could run programs on the Admin account so I was able to run through the cleaning procedure. It looks like MalwareBytes got rid of the bug but please check my logs.

I couldn't edit my thread but I need to add that programs are still disabled on the Guest account. Only the Admin account has things working. I get an "Open With" dialog when I try to open a program in the Guest account. I also can't access the Security Center to start MSE.

Are you referring to the actual user account named Guest ? If so, you should not have this account active at all. It is a security risk. See >>> How to Protect yourself from malware! In particular, sections 10 and 14.

You can run the below to remove a bunch of junk from your Owner account which is what you posted the MGlogs.zip file from.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Also you need to run CCleaner as requested. It does not look like you ran it based on the content of your Temp folders.

You don't delete it. You just need to disable it. You can always manually copy files later.

You can run this if you want. Much of what is in there can also be fixed by running C:\MGtools\FixFA.bat. However if you cannot run anything when logged into the Guest account. How are you going to apply the registry patch to the Guest account rather than to your account.

I was able to run the registry patch because I think the infection only blocks .exe, not .reg. When I applied it I got this error message: "Can't import [location of patch]: Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes."

Despite the error, it does seem to have worked because I can now open programs. I was able to start MSE and update the definitions.

    Anything else left to do?

You mean get my files through an admin account by going to the right folders in Explorer?

Yes, disable the Guest account now. And then if you need a restricted user account for guests, create one and make sure that it is password protected.

    Yes.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
